(1) The Grand Canyon between Khalilzad & Talabani goes straight through the New Iraqi Govenment, i.e. we have a two-puppet-masters-with-one-puppet-situation, for which the prognosis can not be good. Expect the puppet government dissolve soon. I’m in now doubt what the new democratically elected government looks like, but just wondering how is U.S. gonna swallow defending this type democracy.
(2) Speaking of U.S. it’s not like Vietnam. There the U.S. got at least the catholics, the well-doing, the people who joined them just belonging to some, any group is a must there (according to the local standards) – and the lowest local scum (as everywhere). In Iraq they soon got only the scum of their own kind (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove, Rice, Bolton, &c. &c. &c.). Where did they find all this amateurs and how they managed get them together?)
(3) The new situation above posits temptations for the Turkey, since it can – if it sees it that way – with the assistance of Iran (1) oppress heavily the PKK (2) get plenty of Kurdish oil (and soil), (3) blackmail the EU membership (with oil), (4) satisfy the Turkish people, most dissatisfied with the U.S. – All this and much more (beyond my knowledge) with one simple stroke they have always wanted to draw.
No wonder Reuters headlines ‘Turks now see opportunities, not problems, in Iraq’, www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L02784812.htm. (Note that much brighter opportunies, like ‘jobs’ are sketchet under this link).
(4) I’ve forwarded as my opinion (e.g. in www.iraqwar.mirror-world.ru/article/72085, just above the comments) that in this war on “terror” (rather: “with terror”) I’m siding the Sunnis, the Shias, the Kurds, and – in this case – also the Turkmen, and I stick on this here, as well. So I’m not finding anything funny on the situation itself, just laughing (and still laughing to the absurd delusions of the U.S. neocons. If you hired something like “Mr.” Talabani, what would you expect?
p.s. Oops (I like this word), noticed that I kept the Halabja-episode as a common knowledge (what it is for the regular visitors of this site), but @ those who don’t know, have a look at the article ‘What happened in Kurdish Halabja?’, uruknet.info/?p=-4&bh=2 (you may find visiting links given there rewarding also because of the ‘Saddam trial’ – supposing he doesn’t get assasinated “by somebody” before that, of course. I hope not).

The question “Who’s victory?” should of course kept in mind around Bush strategy :)

COMMENT: I’m not sure, whether they still haven’t get it, or do they simply pretend. I’ll keep you informed.
BTW: You can already see the effects of Talabani vs. puppet govt split in newly resprung newswires concerning the Kurds.

QUOTE: In its drive to build an international consensus against Iran developing nuclear weapons, the Bush administration has made a significant concession but failed to develop an effective strategy for resolving one of its greatest challenges, experts say.
(Giving the non-inside-Iraq side of US failure of it’s policy towards Iran. For this cf. now also the article ‘Tehran, a New Metropolis in the Muslim Homeland’, www.iraqwar.mirror-world.ru/article/72311, where I supply the actual external relations proving this)

(By Wesley K. Clark, a former Democratic presidential candidate, and the commander of NATO forces from 1997 to 2000)
SUMMARY: “What a disaster it would be if the real winner in Iraq turned out to be Iran, a country that supports terrorism and opposes most of what we stand for. Surely, we can summon the wisdom, resources and bipartisan leadership to change the American course before it is too late.”
COMMENT: Clark is unable to present anything constructive (mere fictions mainly, not based on any hard core facts). Note also that they are dropping out of the situation pretty badly there in U.S. (this item was published only 06.12.2005).
