Hamas security forces in Gaza have arrested a British man on charges of breaching state security.
Hamas police spokesman Ehab Ghussein said British journalist Paul Martin was arrested on Sunday.
Hamas security forces have obtained "confessions that the British journalist violated Palestinian law and the security of the state," Ghussein added, but gave no more details.
The British consulate in Jerusalem Al-Quds confirmed the arrest but did not confirm the man was a journalist.
An official of the security service of Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, said the Briton was taken to a Gaza courthouse on Sunday.
During the trial, he gave testimony defending a Palestinian friend accused of "collaborating with Israel."
The judge ruled that the journalist should be taken into custody and held for two weeks at the central Gaza prison.
